Field Guide : Indigo Bunting (Male)

$36.00

Unlimited edition. 18 x 24 inch, museum-quality poster on matte paper.

It’s notable (to me, at least) that I envision the indigo bunting differently than I do other bird species. Of course the jaw-dropping combo of cobalt, cerulean, cyan, and ultramarine come to mind, but I always imagine the bird perched near the end of a branch in full song, shoulders and chest pumping, its lower beak pushing its high-pitched, bouncy ballad out into the world. I believe it’s the only species I *visualize* producing its song. Curious. Speaking of the bunting’s song, research has revealed some fascinating tidbits. Young male indigo buntings learn their song from nearby adult males, but evidently *not* from their fathers. Additionally, buntings living just a few hundred yards apart will sing slightly different songs, but those living in a more immediate "song neighborhood" perform nearly identical versions.

Note: These archival poster prints feature rich, appealing colors. I encourage customers to take care in handling them until they are framed/protected for display; the darker colors on the matte paper can be scratched. They ship rolled, so customers need to flatten them before framing (or have their framer do so).

Charitable Sales Model: Whenever one of these poster prints is purchased, a charitable contribution equal to 10% of the print’s cost (or $3.60) is made to a nonprofit working to tackle environmental or social challenges. Read more about my charitable sales model here.
