Field Guide : Regent Bowerbird (Male)

$36.00

Unlimited edition. 18 x 24 inch, museum-quality poster on matte paper.

Male bowerbirds are famous for building “bowers” to court females; in the case of the regent bowerbird, the bower is two walls of standing sticks and a “floor” decorated with colorful shells, seeds, leaves, and berries. The common name of this striking collector commemorates a British prince regent, George, Prince of Wales (later King George IV). That association means nothing to the bird, of course, and tells us nothing of interest other than pointing to modern day Australia’s English penal colony beginnings. The bird’s scientific binomial, though, provides us with a far more descriptive and poetic name, Sericulus chrysocephalus, “the golden-headed bird that resembles silk.” Now, we’re talking.

Note: These archival poster prints feature rich, appealing colors. I encourage customers to take care in handling them until they are framed/protected for display; the darker colors on the matte paper can be scratched. They ship rolled, so customers need to flatten them before framing (or have their framer do so).

Charitable Sales Model: Whenever one of these poster prints is purchased, a charitable contribution equal to 10% of the print’s cost (or $3.60) is made to a nonprofit working to tackle environmental or social challenges. Read more about my charitable sales model here.
