š¦Ø āSkunk headā is the well worn nickname youāll hear in outdoorsy circles, but Iāve always thought of the drake surf scoter as a regal clown, the jester who assumed the throne. His striking head and bill are unforgettable ā that combination of black, white, orange, and yellow is š. But hereās the thing; this charismatic sea duck species is usually observed on the water, the vibrant chili red of his paddling legs unseen. As a result, that punch of red doesnāt generally spring to mind, but because the āField Guideā color column is drawn from the full profile view of each featured species, itās that leggy scarlet you see just below the surf scoterās rich, warm black ā an even greater percentage than his āskunkheadā white! Creating this poster has transformed my mental picture of surf scoters, yet another example of how this project is changing my perspective on species Iāve long observed. šµļø
Note: These archival poster prints feature rich, appealing colors. I encourage customers to take care in handling them until they are framed/protected for display; the darker colors on the matte paper can be scratched. They ship rolled, so customers need to flatten them before framing (or have their framer do so).
