Field Guide : Eurasian Bullfinch (Male)

$36.00

Unlimited edition. 18 x 24 inch, museum-quality poster on matte paper.

The Eurasian bullfinch is a bird I know very little about, but it’s familiar to a great many people because it has a remarkably wide range, occurring from the British Isles across continental Europe, Asia, and even to Japan. A bull-headed, barrel-breasted bird with a fitting common name, the male Eurasian bullfinch wears a tawny reddish-orange shirt and collar with a dapper, blue-grey vest. Based on appearance alone, I can’t help but imagine the bullfinch a proud, top-heavy pugilist, a boxer with a flair for fashion. Apparently, though, that would be a terribly miscast role; bullfinches are generally shy, retreating birds, usually seen as a mated pair or small family group, and it’s the female bullfinch that’s dominant. One day, perhaps, I’ll get across the pond, meet up with some English “twitchers,” and encounter these charming, keep-to-themselves birds. Afterward, I could seek out a pub for a pint of beer named after the bullfinch. There has to be one, right?! If not, that’s an oversight that should be addressed posthaste.🍻

Note: These archival poster prints feature rich, appealing colors. I encourage customers to take care in handling them until they are framed/protected for display; the darker colors on the matte paper can be scratched. They ship rolled, so customers need to flatten them before framing (or have their framer do so).

Charitable Sales Model: Whenever one of these poster prints is purchased, a charitable contribution equal to 10% of the print’s cost (or $3.60) is made to a nonprofit working to tackle environmental or social challenges. Read more about my charitable sales model here.
