Unlimited edition. 18 x 24 inch, museum-quality poster on matte paper.

I remember my surprise. I was maybe eight or nine, watching three pigeons – rock dove (Columba livia) – streak across the sky over a field of winter wheat. Then, suddenly – poof! – an explosion of feathers. It took me a moment to figure out what had occurred. Two pigeons flew on, but the third was pinned to the ground by a peregrine (Falco peregrinus). The raptor drew in its wings and cocked its fierce face this way and that. The slate indigo hood and golden mask made for an executioner’s countenance. After a few moments, the falcon set to plucking and feeding. The fastest of all animals (not just birds), the peregrine falcon is a supreme aerial predator. When it stoops (or dives) on a prey species, it can reach speeds over 200 miles per hour. Smaller prey species are often killed upon impact; others are stunned, allowing the falcon to grab them before delivering a fatal bite to the back of the neck.

Note: These archival poster prints feature rich, appealing colors. I encourage customers to take care in handling them until they are framed/protected for display; the darker colors on the matte paper can be scratched. They ship rolled, so customers need to flatten them before framing (or have their framer do so).

Charitable Sales Model: Whenever one of these poster prints is purchased, a charitable contribution equal to 10% of the print’s cost (or $3.60) is made to a nonprofit working to tackle environmental or social challenges. Read more about my charitable sales model here.
