Field Guide : White-breasted Nuthatch (Male)

$36.00

Unlimited edition. 18 x 24 inch, museum-quality poster on matte paper.

All members of the nuthatch family are adept at moving up, down, and around tree trunks and branches as they hunt. In North America, they’re the only bird family that can descend a tree trunk headfirst, and you’ll sometimes hear bird nerds refer to nuthatches “upside-down birds.” The white-breasted nuthatch prefers deciduous forests, and my family is fortunate to share our yard with a bonded pair (the birds are monogamous and mate for life). They’ve nested in a cavity in one of our coast live oaks at least one year, and, as I write this note, the pair is foraging for tasty insects on the tree’s boughs. Because nuthatch home ranges are up to 25 acres, our yard is just one of many this pair visits. I’m always pleased to say ‘hello.’

Note: These archival poster prints feature rich, appealing colors. I encourage customers to take care in handling them until they are framed/protected for display; the darker colors on the matte paper can be scratched. They ship rolled, so customers need to flatten them before framing (or have their framer do so).

Charitable Sales Model: Whenever one of these poster prints is purchased, a charitable contribution equal to 10% of the print’s cost (or $3.60) is made to a nonprofit working to tackle environmental or social challenges. Read more about my charitable sales model here.
